Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Head of Safety to lead our organization in developing and implementing comprehensive safety programs. This pivotal role is responsible for ensuring a safe working environment for all employees, while fostering a culture of safety awareness and compliance throughout the organization. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a proactive approach to safety management.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Safety Program Management
- Ensure compliance with the Highway Traffic Act, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and all other CLC Safety Regulations
- Oversee the implementation of driver training programs
- Incident Investigation and Reporting
- Training and Development
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for drivers, dispatchers, and other employees
- Compliance and Audits
- Ensure the company remains audit-ready and maintains compliance with the Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (VOR) system
- Conduct internal audits, vehicle inspections, and facility checks to identify and mitigate risks
- Driver Support and Coaching
- Data Analysis and Reporting
- Prepare and present regular safety performance reports to management
Qualifications and Experience
- Proven experience in a safety leadership role within the trucking, logistics, or transportation industry
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Canadian Labour Code
- Certification in transportation safety management, occupational health and safety, or a related field in preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, and coaching skills
- Proficiency in incident investigation, risk assessment, and developing safety strategies
