Job Full Description
We’re recruiting for a Switch Operator for a local company. This is an evaluation hire opportunity.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience operating heavy machinery, preferably diesel-powered
- Experience in rail yard operations or similar environments is a plus
- Strong understanding of safety protocols and procedures
- Excellent communication skills and ability to follow directions
- Physical ability to perform manual labor and work in varying weather conditions
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Responsibilities:
- Operate a diesel-powered machine to move railcars within the yard and shop areas
- Follow directions from the switchman to pull or push railcars accurately and safely
- Perform routine checks and maintenance on the machine to ensure it is in good working condition
- Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment
- Coordinate with team members to ensure efficient and smooth railcar movement
- Report any issues or malfunctions with the machine to the maintenance team
- Keep detailed records of railcar movements and any incidents that occur during operations
- Assist in other yard operations as needed
Wage: $28.00/hour
