Job Full Description

Join our team as an Environmental Services Operator, where you'll help operate and maintain water, wastewater, and stormwater systems. This 12-18 month contract offers valuable hands-on experience in essential environmental services.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain water distribution, wastewater collection, and treatment systems
  • Conduct inspections, testing, and compliance monitoring
  • Perform maintenance, repairs, and preventive maintenance
  • Respond to emergency call-backs and participate in on-call rotation
  • Maintain records and reports for system operations
  • Ensure safe handling and storage of industrial chemicals
  • Operate equipment such as commercial trucks, wheel loaders, tractors, and chain saws
  • Assist in audits, inspections, and health & safety compliance
  • Interpret blueprints, manuals, and technical specifications
  • Work collaboratively and take initiative
  • Perform manual labour as required

 

Qualifications:

  • Class 1 Water Distribution or Class 1 Water Distribution and Supply, Class 1 Wastewater Collection, and Class 1 Wastewater Treatment
  • Operator-in-Training (OIT) candidates may be considered under O.Reg. 128/04 and 129/04
  • Ability to achieve Class 2 water and Class 3 wastewater certification
  • Available for on-call duty and overtime as required
  • Minimum G driver’s license (clean record required); ability to obtain DZ may be needed
  • Participation in the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) may be required

 

Additional Assets:

  • Certification in a related trade (Millwright, Mechanic, Electrician, Plumber, etc.)
  • Valid Class DZ/AZ driver’s license
  • Experience operating commercial trucks, wheel loaders, tractors, and other equipment
  • Training or experience in auditing and inspections
  • OHS Certification Part 1 & 2

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes
  • Experience in trades maintenance (electrical, plumbing, welding, etc.)
  • Knowledge of regulations, health & safety, and water/sewer construction
  • Ability to analyze data, troubleshoot issues, and make process adjustments
  • Strong problem-solving, planning, and scheduling skills
  • Basic math and chemistry knowledge for process calculations
  • Proficiency with computers, monitoring systems, and CMMS
  • Effective communication skills for reporting and collaboration
