Job Summary
The Full-Charge Bookkeeper records financial transactions and posts debits/credits. They also produce financial statements, generate reports, and may handle office management. They will work closely with management to provide accurate financial reporting and analysis to support decision-making while maintaining confidentiality of financial and personnel information.

Key Responsibilities

The Full-Charge Bookkeeper will be responsible for general accounting, financial reporting, payroll management, compliance and tax preparation, financial controls and other duties. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage all aspects of the general ledger, including journal entries, reconciliations, and adjustments.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all financial transactions.
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable, including vendor payments and customer invoicing.
  • Reconcile bank and credit card accounts monthly.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (e.g., income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements); perform month-end closings.
  • Generate financial reports for management review and decision-making.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Process payroll for employees, including tax withholdings and benefit deductions.
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations including government remittances (HST, source deductions, WSIB and EHT).
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
  • Prepare and file sales tax, payroll tax, and other required filings.
  • Collaborate with external auditors or tax preparers during audits or tax preparation; coordinate with and assist their external accountant for fiscal year-end filing.
  • Monitor and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Assist in developing and improving accounting policies and procedures; support special projects and initiatives as assigned by management.

Key Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, an asset.
  • Minimum 4 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience, with experience in a full-charge capacity, required.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Spire, QuickBooks) and MS Office Suite (especially Excel).
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Working Conditions

  • The position is permanent, 100% on-site and part-time of 20 hours per week. The incumbent can choose their schedule so long as their twenty hours occur during the company’s hours of operations.
